A homicide took place in the Peninsula shopping mall in Rolling Hills Estates Thursday afternoon making it the first homicide in the city in nine years.
A woman in her mid-60s was found stabbed to death in her vehicle in the parking garage. Vanessa Lozano of the Los Angeles County Department commented that the victim’s throat had been cut and was stabbed multiple times. Mall patrons found her in the afternoon around 12 p.m. Bloodhounds were brought in closer to the evening to attempt to pick up any scents around the area.
According to Lieutenant Rodney Moore of the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau, the woman was only identified as Caucasian and in her mid-60’s. According to Sammy Weiss, a 17-year-old Palos Verdes High Student, vehicle break-ins occur every once in a while around and near the parking structure.
The city released a statement notifying residents of the homicide investigation, saying “Rolling Hills Estates is a very safe community, and incidents like this are highly unusual.” Rolling Hills Estates Mayor Britt Huff also commented and said the incident was “unbelievable" that someone was left midday in a parking lot to die.”
The entire community is in disbelief and there are no other details that can be provided at this time.
