Homeless Pasadena Man Charged with Killing His Wife and Setting Remains on Fire

|

PASADENA CRIME REPORT

Carlos Gutierrez, 56, has been charged with killing and dismembering his former wife before allegedly setting a suitcase with her body parts on fire.

Last Thursday, February 1st, the remains of a woman were found in an abandoned Home Depot parking lot. The remains appeared to have been severely burned.

Gutierrez was charged with murder and arson of property according to the spokesman of Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Although the remains have not been 100% identified, police are speculating that they are indeed of his late wife. Carlos Gutierrez’s bail has been set for $2.17 million and will be arraigned in court next Tuesday.

Gutierrez and his late wife were homeless and known to have lived at the Union Station Adult Center in Pasadena for months at a time. The homeless shelter is a mere mile away from an abandoned building where police believed the victim was killed, located at 577 South Arroyo Parkway. Allegedly Gutierrez killed his wife, rode the train to Lincoln exit and rode his bicycle to the Home Depot. Only after setting it on fire did he flee the scene.

Gutierrez has an extensive record including burglary, petty theft, battery and robbery. The Pasadena Police Department is adamant about working with L.A.P.D. in order to help solve the case faster.
