Donald Trump and Gun Regulation

|

President Trump has implemented a new plan that will help states pay for firearms training for teachers. Although he does not support raising the firearm purchasing age to age 21, he does want to seek other methods to help prevent future catastrophes.

The White House has directed the Justice Department to help states work with local law enforcement to provide firearms training to qualified individuals.

President Trump said schools that remain a gun-free campus are “like an invitation for these very sick people.” Trump has held many meetings with lawmakers, families of victims and the National Rifle Association over the last few weeks.

Trump is in favor of universal background checks and suggested that law enforcement officials should be able to confiscate guns from those they deem as a safety risk before a court has time to intervene. Along with these changes, the president also wants to improve the coordination between mental health care, school officials and law enforcement.

Additionally, he has called for a thorough review of the FBI tip line.

The White House hopes Congress will pass a federal grant program to train students, teachers, and school officials how to identify signs of potential violence is a bill that they are expected to vote on the STOP School Violence Act next week.
